Water TortureViews: 418

I tried posting this last night, but due to “user error” totally lost it (which, I’ve also been doing a lot lately, in a much more figurative sense). I went in for a sonigram yesterday, and I have to say that out of all of the tests I’ve been through, this HAS to be the worst one. Sure, they shoot radiation through your veins for a PET, and an allergy to the contrast almost killed me for the CT, but the sonigram absolutely takes the cake! (This is where I offer up the “I am really a very sarcastic person, so I’m sorry if this comes accross whiny – that’s just my dry sense of humor” disclaimer.

To “prep” for the test, you’re required to drink 32 ounces of water one hour prior to the test and then hold it. For someone who hardly ever drinks water (I’m addicted to Diet Coke), this is extremely difficult. So, I literally force myself to chug down 4 bottles of water. It is extremely difficult for me to “hold” since my bladder has been under a lot of pressure lately (poor thing), so I go to the lab a little early in hopes that they’ll get me in sooner. FAT CHANCE. Not only do they keep me waiting past my appt. time, once I get in and we get started, the tech tells me that my bladder isn’t full enough and so we wait. OMG! How do pregnant women make it through this?

The test begins easily enough…they do the over the belly scan like normal, which takes no more than 5 minutes. THEN, and only then, do you get to empty your bladder. And it has to be really empty, so they make you go twice if you don’t perform well under pressure. Even so, I was extremely happy at this point. Until they bring out “the transducer”. Oh my.

I won’t even go there my dears. Just imagine your “yearly exam” on crack.

The good news in all of this is that my very pregnant tech (I don’t know how that always happens. Lisa, the bio-clock does NOT stop – my sensitivity to the subject was something I had to address quickly), said that things looked “good”. She wouldn’t go into it anymore (they’re not supposed to say anything really), so I’m just going to hold onto that for now. Should hear something tomorrow morning.

Ciao for now, and here’s hoping you never have to have this test (unless you’re having a baby and need it of course!)

You ahd to drink 32-oz at one sitting?? I would have exploded, but not before I peed my pants. I’m glad you made it through it all. Go have a diet Coke!
